How to Keep Your Flower Fresh
Trim the stems: When you receive the bloom, cut all of the stems to at least 2 inches in length and repeat every two or three days.
The surface area accessible for absorption is increased by cutting the stems at a diagonal angle.
Change the water: To reduce bacterial growth, change the water in the bouquet every two or three days with lukewarm water, which you may do when you take the flowers for trimming.
(Not only can bacteria block stems and hinder them from properly absorbing water, but it may also make the entire bouquet smell bad.)
Keep in mind that placement is everything: cut flowers last longer in cooler temperatures, so keep them away from direct sunlight and heat.
Keeping flowers away from developing fruit as it "may potentially release ethylene gas, which would shorten the lifetime of the flowers."
Recipe for Flowers:
Combine 1 teaspoon sugar, 1 teaspoon bleach, and 2 tablespoons lemon or lime juice in a quart of water.
Simply place it in your vase and you're done!
